Professional Development 

This training is aimed at professionals, paraprofessionals and community member to build capacity to respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and abuse. This training covers the full continuum of sexual violence across lifespan. Participates gain the skills to offer safe and supportive responses to survivors, and to support survivors to  reach out for help from medical and counselling services and/ or report to police.

• To educate individuals about the personal, cultural and legal aspects of sexual assault and sexual abuse. 

• To enable individuals to recognize, define, and respond appropriately to disclosures of sexual assault and abuse.

This self-paced course is designed to introduce learners to modes of indigeneity and indigenous ways of knowing. Learners explore indigenous histories and contemporary issues from across Canada through indigenous perspectives. Learners gain greater awareness of past and present relationships between Indigenous and settler societies. 

This course is divided into 12 sections and takes an average of 20 hours to complete.

This course introduces learners to contemporary and historical processes of land disposition in Canada. Learners gain wider awareness of resistance though enforcement of Indigenous models of consent and relationship to natural resources. Within this course learners are also invited to consider the future of the Land Back movement, and how this movement fits into the wider context of climate change activist and non-indigenous allyship.

This course builds on the skills taught in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) as they can be applied to supporting children. This course uses stories and case studies to provide participants to the skills notice warning sign of suicide in children, as well as introducing intervention stratagies. 

Learning Outcomes:

• Appreciate how a child’s developmental stage affects their concept of death and suicide;

• Identify protective factors, risk factors and warning signs in children; and

• Confidently transfer care of a child to a caregiver.

Participants learn skills for providing initial help to individuals experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis. Training consists of 9 hours blended delivery, with an emphasis on scenario based learning.
